Mission: comfort!

The inspiration behind Hujaus's comfortable pants comes from my own bitter experiences when searching for pants that actually fit. In the past, I had always settled for "okay" options; if the pants went on relatively easily, that was good enough. All my life, I lived under the misconception that I had the "wrong" kind of body—one that simply wouldn't sit comfortably in any pair of pants. My core issue with pants has always been that if there is enough room for my thighs and bottom, the waistband squeezes my stomach while leaving space for three fists at the back. Standing under bright lights, looking at yourself from multiple angles while a miserable feeling takes over because no fitted model works—it made the threshold for the next shopping trip higher every single time.

It wasn't until my pregnancy that I truly experienced what it feels like when pants don't squeeze at all. When maternity pants no longer stayed up after giving birth, I began sewing comfortable pants for myself with a soft ribbed waistband. Hujaus's very first pant models similarly featured ribbed waists, and styles like the Hitti sweatpants are still in our collection today.

Since then, several comfortable waist solutions have been developed—some completely without elastic, some with elastic, and many styles in between. Of course, an elastic band alone isn't enough; true comfort comes from many factors. We have invested heavily in the fit of our pants: for instance, the shape of the crotch seam, as well as the height and construction of the waist, make a huge difference in how the pants feel and look on. For the first time, I actually have real options when searching for a pant model that suits me!

I find it fascinating to develop our pant collection based on customer wishes. Fortunately, we receive a lot of feedback and requests regarding colors and upcoming styles, which is invaluable information from a product development perspective. I also always watch with interest to see a customer's initial reaction when trying on a garment—whether happy sighs or more thoughtful mumblings come out of the fitting room. If a customer hesitates, I want to know what's on their mind. I'm always particularly interested in the fit: how the pants look and feel, and what could still be improved.

I also view moments spent at the fitting room discussing body insecurities or the meaning of a size tag as deeply important. Many predefined ideas are attached to garment sizing, making it a sensitive topic for many. The size feels like it has to be "right," even though sizing varies across clothing brands and has shifted over time. There is no such thing as an absolute "right" size, and I've often thought—half-jokingly—that it would be fun to use flowers and butterflies on size tags instead of letter sizes, so that a label wouldn't dictate how you feel.

Someone might also assume, without trying or based on external comments, that wide-leg pants or a fitted skirt wouldn't suit wide hips. Yet when different styles are tried on open-mindedly, a customer might discover entirely new sides to their body and fall in love with a feature they previously tried to hide. These are genuinely meaningful moments for me, ones I revisit in my mind long after.

I choose comfort every single day, and Hujaus's mission is to offer that same comfort to others. At the same time, I want to solve as many pant-related challenges as I possibly can!
