Full-length wide-leg trousers

A full-length, wide-leg silhouette is flattering on many body types because it creates long, vertical lines that visually elongate the legs. At Hujaus, we offer several comfortable wide-leg options.

If you prefer a regular-rise waist, our super popular Aava trousers are a go-to choice.

For high-waisted styles, you have plenty of options: Fiini trousers are ideal for both work and casual wear. Jalo trousers feature a stunning navy blue wool blend with stylish waist ties. Leuto linen trousers are perfect for linen lovers, letting the breezy, wide leg drape beautifully.

For a more relaxed vibe, try Marlene or the Rauha.

Straight and slim-leg trouser models

Full-length, straight, and slim-leg trousers are customer favorites thanks to their effortless versatility. A narrower leg works seamlessly for both everyday wear and special occasions, pairing well with any shoes. The narrow hem is also easy to cuff for a cropped look, instantly changing up the style.

Hujaus’s slimmest fits are Mieli jeans and Into trousers, which feature a narrow leg from top to bottom.

Haave jeans and Rehti trousers feature a leg that tapers slightly toward the ankle, whereas Vire trousers offer a classic straight-leg cut.

For a more relaxed, jogger-style look with a tapered leg, check out Metka trousers.

Culottes and ankle-length trousers

Culottes and ankle-length 7/8 trousers are a practical choice all year round.

Our culotte styles feature Helmi jersey culottes with a soft ribbed waistband and 100% linen Meno culottes with an elastic waist.

Ankle lengths are available in wide-leg Aava 7/8 and Pouta 7/8 models, as well as straight-leg Bueno trousers.

Are you under 160 cm tall? The 7/8 length is our best-selling trouser length for petite customers looking for a full-length fit. The proportions work flawlessly in this length—so be sure to explore Aava 7/8, Pouta 7/8, and Bueno trousers.

Common trouser fit challenges

Choosing the right size

Finding the right size depends on your personal fit preferences as well as the garment's design. At Hujaus, you'll find both a body measurement chart and flat-laid garment measurements on each product page. Our measurement charts already take into account the intended ease and looseness of each design.

For trousers, the correct size is selected based on waist and hip measurements. If these two don't align perfectly, a slight compromise may be needed when choosing your size. As a general rule, we recommend selecting a size closer to your hip measurement—especially if your hips place you in a larger size than your waist on the size chart.

If trousers are too tight around the hips, it affects the overall fit: flattering horizontal drag lines can appear across the hips and waist, pockets won't sit flat, and so on. If the difference spans multiple sizes—for example, your hips match size XL while your waist fits size M—the best fit is usually found somewhere in between. We also include thigh width measurements on our product charts, which you can easily compare against a pair of trousers you already own.

With stretchy fabrics, it can be tempting to pick the snuggest possible size since the fabric doesn't feel tight. However, even with stretch materials, sufficient ease is important for the longevity of the garment. If the fabric is kept under constant tension all day, the elastane wears out faster and the seams are put under extra strain.

For non-stretch fabrics, such as linen trousers, adequate ease is especially vital—otherwise, the seams simply won't withstand the strain caused by moving, bending, and sitting.

Sensitive or bloating stomach

Even though all our trouser models feature a comfortable, stretchy waist, sometimes a sensitive stomach finds even an elastic band too restrictive.

If you experience abdominal bloating, manage conditions like IBS, or need trousers for early pregnancy or postpartum recovery, the softest waistline is found in Hitti sweatpants. Hitti trousers have no elastic band at all—just a soft ribbed waistband.

Styles with elastic only at the back are also ideal if you need extra comfort, as they place zero pressure on the stomach. These models include Rauha jersey trousers, Helmi jersey culottes, Lumo leggings,Tatsi sports leggings, and Slimmi biker shorts.

Many also find a wide elastic band more tummy-friendly. An 80 mm elastic waistband is featured in stretchy styles Marlene and Aava.

Back waist gap

If you often experience a "waist gap"—where an opening or gap forms at the back of the waistband—you likely have a relatively narrow waist compared to your hips. A pronounced lower back arch can also create extra space at the back of the waist.

Generally, the more your hip measurement comes from a rounded seat, the more likely you are to encounter a waist gap. If your hip width is more prominent from the front, waist gap might not be as much of a challenge for you.

In any case, when there is a significant difference between your waist and hip measurements, you'll need to make a slight compromise, and your ideal size will usually lie somewhere between the two.

Many brands design trouser fits for a fairly straight body shape. Because of this, when you select a size based on your hip measurement, you often end up with too much excess room at the waist, yet the trousers might still put uncomfortable pressure on your stomach.

At Hujaus, we pay special attention to the fit of the back rise. Additionally, all our trouser models feature an elastic waistband, which naturally makes finding a good fit much easier.

In this case, a mid-rise waist may offer a better fit than a high rise, as the waistband sits roughly at navel level rather than rising to your narrowest point. Our mid-rise styles include wide-leg Aava trousers, slim Into trousers, Mieli and Haave jeans, and casual Metka trousers.

However, if your hip measurement comes specifically from a rounded seat, a higher waist is often the better choice. On a rounded bottom, the crotch seam can feel short, making the waist sit too low in the back. Among our high-waisted options, Fiini, Bueno, and Vire are especially worth trying.

Back waist darts also improve the fit. At Hujaus, you'll find them in wide-leg Jalo trousers, Leuto linen trousers, and Mieli jeans.

Trousers too long

Depending on the source, the average height for Finnish women is around 167 cm. If you are significantly below this average or have a relatively short inseam, trouser length and proportions—especially in pants—can often pose a challenge.

At Hujaus, we have two styles specifically designed to solve these fit issues. Many of our customers wear them as full-length trousers, even though they are technically designed as cropped lengths.

7/8 leg length of Aava trousers works exceptionally well as a full-length, wide-leg option. The proportions generally fit beautifully, both in terms of leg length and waist height.

Bueno trousers are another option worth trying. They feature a slightly tapered leg and a high waist. If you have a short torso, Aava is likely the better choice.

Pouta trousers also feature a 7/8 leg length. Pouta is a wide, flowy model made from lightweight Tencel jersey, making it particularly suitable for spring and summer. Pouta trousers feature a mid-rise waist.

Trousers too short

Depending on the source, the average height for Finnish women is around 167 cm. If you are significantly above this average or have a relatively long inseam, trouser length and proportions—especially in pants—can often pose a challenge.

At Hujaus, we offer several extra-long trouser models. Extra length cannot simply be added to the leg opening during pattern making; instead, in our LONG-trousers, length is added evenly throughout the entire garment. The thigh section is longer, the knee placement is lower, the lower leg section is longer, and so on. If the extra length were added only at the hem, the overall proportions would no longer sit correctly.

Our LONG-length at Hujaus is truly long, measuring 90–92 cm before washing, depending on the model. All sizes feature the same inseam length, so you don't have to compromise on size just to get extra inches in the leg.

You can find our LONG-length in the following trouser models: wide-leg, high-waisted Fiini LONG, slim-leg, mid-rise Into LONG, and casual Hitti LONG sweatpants.

Styling tips for trousers

Which shoes to wear with wide-leg trousers

Wondering which shoes to pair with wide-leg trousers? All kinds of shoes work well with a wide leg, but here are a few tips.

If the trousers are full-length and wide-legged, and you want to emphasize the width of the leg, a pointy-toed shoe is the best choice. Full-length wide legs also work great with sneakers and trainers.

For cropped wide-leg trousers, combat boots, ankle boots, and tall boots are great choices in autumn and winter. In warmer weather, sneakers, running shoes, and sandals are ideal options.

Balance proportions

Playing with proportions is a popular styling trick. The basic idea and an easy formula for everyday dressing is to pair a loose bottom with a fitted top, and vice versa.

Wearing a full-on fitted or full-on relaxed outfit is also a stylish choice, but if you want safe, easy combinations for everyday wear, here are a few ideas:

Pair wide, full-length Fiini high-waisted trousers or mid-rise Aava trousers with a fitted top, like a tailored tee or a tucked-in tank. Add a cropped jacket or short cardigan to define the waist.

Pair slim, full-length Mieli jeans or Into trousers with a relaxed Ainoa t-shirt and a long Luotto cotton jacket.

Pair straight-leg Haave jeans with the waist-emphasizing Kauno wrap top. The Kauno wrap top works wonderfully to highlight the waist when paired with casual, mom-jean-style denim.

Pair cropped, wide-leg Aava 7/8 trousers with a relaxed Ainoa t-shirt. Try layering with a casual oversize blazer or cardigan to complete the look.

The most flattering proportions

Everyone is free to dress in whatever way feels best and suits their personal style, but if you want to use a few proven tricks to highlight your body's proportions using clothes, here are a few tips.

Highlight your waist and leg length.

For straight and wide-leg trousers, the most flattering length—the one that adds the most visual length to your legs—is a full-length hem. For ankle-length trousers, the ideal length ends at the narrowest part of your ankle. With slim-fit trousers, both full-length and ankle-length work well, and the hem should similarly hit the narrowest point of the ankle.

Pro tip: Especially with wide-leg trousers, make sure there is enough ease and volume so the fabric drapes beautifully. If the trousers are too tight around the hips or thighs, you lose that straight, leg-lengthening line.

High-waisted trousers emphasize the waistline. When paired with high-waisted bottoms, shorter tops are a visually effective choice.

Keep the hem of your top above the widest part of your hips to avoid "cutting" the silhouette at its widest point. The top doesn't need to be cropped—a hem that ends just 5 cm above the hips, for example, will instantly make your legs look longer.

Tops at Hujaus are proportioned so that they fit just right for most people—they aren't cropped, yet the hem doesn't fall across the widest part of the hips. Explore our collection of tops!

Care and materials

Trouser care and maintenance

Trousers, like any other garment, should be cared for with attention to detail. The basic rules for all clothing care are washing sparingly, storing with adequate airflow, and regular airing. Clothes should only be washed when truly necessary; even for an isolated stain, there is no need to wash the entire garment—the spot can be spot cleaned instead.

Always follow the garment-specific care instructions when washing. None of our trouser materials are suitable for tumble drying.

Gentler methods for both your clothes and the environment include using a clothes brush, a lint roller, and a garment steamer. A clothes brush is an excellent tool for removing pet hair, dust, or dander, and it is also great for treating localized stains. Steaming allows you to easily and quickly refresh and smooth out your trousers for wear.

Hujaus trouser materials

We invest a great deal of effort into finding and testing the right materials. We never order new materials blindly; instead, we test the fabrics in everyday wear using sample trousers. This ensures that the material works perfectly for the specific trouser model it was designed for.

A stretch fabric is the easiest way to add comfort to trousers, but it is neither enough on its own nor the only solution. Non-stretch materials can also be comfortable when the design offers sufficient ease and a flexible waistband.

The trouser materials used by Hujaus are mainly viscose- or cotton-based punto knits, denim, 100% linen, cotton-elastane jersey or stretch French terry, and technical polyamide-based performance fabrics.

Our fabrics are sourced from Portugal, Turkey, Lithuania, and Finland.
